Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. The charts will be updated monthly and each article will focus on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.



PS4 Vs. PS3 Global:


Gap change in latest month: 314,276 – PS4

Total Lead: 4,689,913 – PS4


PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 8,506,126


PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 3,816,213


June 2014 is the eighth month the PlayStation 4 is on sale. The gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the eighth month the PlayStation 3 was on sale. The gap increased by 314,276 units, to bring it to 4,689,913.


Both consoles launched in November. The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. In its first eight months on sale the PlayStation 4 has sold a total 8.51 million units, while the PlayStation 3 has sold 3.82 million units.
