Kaoru Mori, the mangaka of A Bride’s Story (Otoyomegatari), the acclaimed manga set in 19th century Turkic Central Asia, has been enlisted to illustrate the visual for the 10th anniversary of Central Asia plus Japan. Launched in 2004, the political dialog initiative between Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan aims to create “a new framework for cooperation, thereby elevating relations between Japan and Central Asia to a new level”.
Turkmenistan, maintaining its policy of neutrality, participates only as an observer.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida hopes to use the occasion of this 10th anniversary to start a fifth round of talks. The last were held November 12th, during which the Government of Japan pledged US $700 million for the projects which will facilitate regional cooperation.
Bride’s Story is published in North America by Yen Press.
