Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 4 racing game Driveclub runs in 1080p at 30fps and that’s in the best interest for the title, game director Paul Rustchynsky said in a new interview.
Speaking with VG247, Rustchynsky said Driveclub developer Evolution Studios initially targeted 60fps for the game, but it was later decided that 30fps would serve the game best.
“As we’ve got more familiar with the hardware, and also, looking at what we wanted from the game, we decided that 1080p, 30 frames per second is absolutely the best thing, because what that allows us to do is to deliver the most detailed cars in-race that you will ever have seen,” Rustchynsky said.
“It’s allowed us to create some of the biggest tracks you will ever see in a racing game, with the most visually-dense environments, as well as a full global illumination system which allows us to make time of day, where shadows are cast, full-on reflections,” he added. “It’s allowed us to push all those various areas.”
Finally, Rustchynsky said PS4 game Infamous: Second Son was able to look beautiful as a result of Sucker Punch Productions engineers keeping the game running at 30fps instead of a higher resolution.
Driveclub was recently delayed, and it now launches on October 7. For more on the game, be sure to read our own interview with Rustchynsky and our entire previous coverage.
