FEATURE: Anime-Planet Recommends... Fall Preview Edition

It's time for another edition of "Anime-Planet Recommends...", where each week we showcase some of the anime you recommend people might like on Anime-Planet

As the Fall season kicks off, we've started seeing initial impressions and recommendations for the titles on Anime-Planet - keep in mind these are preliminary based only on the first episodes. Still, these can be useful to get a sense of what you're in for when picking up a series. This week, we'll focus fully on these seasonal first impressions!

Starting things off, you might like When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace if you enjoyed Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions.

When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace

Chuunibyou

RamkoX12X explains:

"Both shows feature a school club in which 5 members express "supernatural" powers with one another. For Chuunibyou, it's make-believe. In Inou Battle, it's actually real. Both have a huge sense of comedy and light-hearted humor, with the addition of a character in Chuunibyou acting in a very similar way as the person in Inou Battle. If you liked one of them and their sense of comedy, then you should enjoy the other."

Next up, Wolf Girl and Black Prince has a few initial pairings this week.

Wolf Girl and Black Prince

Let's start with Kamisama Hajimemashita.

Kamisama Hajimemashita

YoakeCassidy says:

"Even though Kamisama Hajimemashita has a supernatural element that Wolf Girl and Black Prince does not have, both stories still revolve around similar characters. Both Nanami and Erika are compassionate young girls that want a beautiful high school life and a beautiful romance. They find this romance in the rude but caring Tomoe and Kyouya, two boys who are not willing to admit their love for the girls, but in the end can't escape it. "

Someone else thinks you'd enjoy this series if you liked Blue Spring Ride.

Blue Spring Ride

mrpineapple describes:

"Both shows center on a lively, scatty female protaganist and their relationship with the main male, who is strong and somewhat mysterious.Wolf girl is more humourous, mainly thanks to the sadistic male lead - but the shows are similar enough in tone and plot that if you enjoyed one, you'll enjoy the other."

Finally, a third person thinks it's somewhat similar to Zero no Tsukaima so far.

Zero no Tsukaima

gokatwoman says:

"If you've seen and liked The Familiar of Zero, then you're going to recognize the resemblances to the (love) story right away. Louise summons Saito and makes him become her "dog" due to her being his master. In Wolf Girl and Black Prince, the roles are reversed. The main female lead, Erika, lies to her friends about the cutest boy in the school, Kyouya, being her boyfriend. In order to keep the act up due to equivalent exchange, she agrees to become his "dog". "

On the romance side of things, how about Nodame Cantabile or Your lie in April?

Nodame Cantabile

Your lie in April

theholyduck has this to say:

"Your lie in April seems to be setting up to be a more childhood romance oriented, less serious anime in the same vein as Nodame Cantabille, It uses the same character archtypes, and it seems to be setting up the same kind of classical music focus. Where they differ is that Your lie in April is going for a much more, sparkling flowery rainbow vibe. So unless you object to that, give the other a go. "

In the realm of the dark and scary, there's always Attack on Titan and Terra Formars.

Attack on Titan

Terra Formars

Doremi says:

"Both of these shows are about a group of people going out to find information about the threat against humanity.(Mutated Cockroaches in TF and Titans in SnK) I find the animation style very alike, and the shows give a similar feel. Like solving the mystery behind these ''monsters'' and find a way to stop humanity from falling to extincion.

If you don't mind a bit gore and like a this kind of mysterious setting where humanity is at risk, I recommend watching both."

Next, a few recommendations came through for Shirobako.

Shirobako

HasseRovdjur thinks you might like Shirobako if you liked Animation Runner Kuromi.

Animation Runner Kuromi

He says:

"Both anime are focused on a woman working in the animation industry, and are about the trials and tribulations of making anime. If you like the subject matter in either anime, do yourself a favour and check the other one out."

Hasse thinks another good pairing is with Mangirl!

Mangirl

For this pairing, he explains:

"Both anime are comedic workplace anime with female leads, focused on making manga and anime, respectively. They both have big casts, and tackle roughly the same issues, like keeping deadlines, dealing with creators and the inner workings of the business.

Mangirl! is more zany, whereas Shirobako is more grounded, but they should both be enjoyable for those who want more of an insider view into anime and manga."

In the fantasy realm, fans of Maoyu might enjoy  Lord Marksman and Vanadis

Maoyu

Vanadis

Kreados describes:

"The start of both of these animes are similar, two sworn enemies become allies. is Maoyuu, the hero is persuaded by the Demon king to join forces, and in Marksman and Vanadis, the MC is captured by the Maiden and she tries to get him to join her as well."

Finally, fish. Who are men. If you're into mermen, you might try out Kono Danshi, Ningyo Hiroimashita or Orenchi no Furo Jijo

Kono Danshi

Orenchi

chii says:

"Both are about boys who meet merman! Lots of laughs to be had and a little romance too. Check them out."

That's it for now! Enjoy the fall season, and join us next week for more recommendations of what to watch next - and as always, add your recommendations on Anime-Planet each week for a chance to be featured in this column.

See you next time!
