The most amusing detail in all this is the theater company promising that "the play will present new material that 'wasn't able to be presented' in the original television anime series."
That has to translate to "longer dialogue scenes," because I don't see how they'll be able to present most of any actual material from the show. Theater staging is already a struggle of finding abstract ways to represent big events with minimal props - - and that's typically without the inclusion of galaxy-sized mechs and cross-country sniper shots.
== TEASER ==Nevertheless, ANN has relayed an impressive number of portraits showing how GURREN LAGANN's entire 27-head cast will be represented during the engagement this week. The level of faithfulness, and attention to detail, on display in these photos is quite impressive (though part of me wonders if the crew just bought the outfits off of cosplayers. Surely, there were plenty already available).
None of us should be too vexed about the logistics of this, I suppose. If you can turn HUNTER X HUNTER into several stage musicals...
...there's really no reason you can't give GURREN LAGANN the same treatment.
I'm just really curious how they're going to handle the mechs in this. Will they be paper machete puppets, in the vein of the WAR HORSE and LION KING stage shows? Is the audience supposed to just understand them as gigantic? The mind races...
If any of have actually sat through one of these stage versions - - either in person, or on video - - I'd love to hear your thoughts. Do you think this could actually work?
