IS ANIME-INSPIRED CLOTHING ON THE RISE?

It seems that Nike is teaming up with mangaka Takehiko Inoue to bring us some sweet new swag based on his mega-hit manga SLAM DUNK. The “Jordan X ‘SLAM DUNK’ Collection” includes two pairs of kicks brandished with art from the series, allowing you to channel both His Airness and SLAM DUNK’s Hanamichi Sakuragi.

The price of such power? $185-250. This has to go down as one of the best merch pairings in anime history. Sure, there’s a lot of stuff like costumes and jewelry that gets made (official or otherwise) from designs in anime and manga, but how often is it actually practical like this?

The only other examples I can think of off the top of my head are the DEATH NOTE notebook and the recently released SAILOR MOON makeup compact with real makeup inside

But I say why stop there? There are all kinds of cool thing from anime and manga that would be great merch that people would gobble up! Sometimes literally – what about Ginsu Bean snacks? Or an actual Greed Island video game from HUNTER X HUNTER? Maybe even some official Survey Corps climbing gear from ATTACK ON TITAN? The possibilities are nearly endless!

What kind of anime merch do YOU think needs to happen? Let us know in the comments!
