"Mind Game" Blu-Ray Crowdfunding Project Smashes Funding Goal in 6 Days

Legendary Studio 4°C recently began a crowdfunding project to release one of its most highly regarded films in Mind Game on Blu-Ray in late March. The studio needed at least ¥600,000 to begin production of the limited edition sets with the studio contributing the remainder. With project partner UK-based distributor All the Anime handling international fulfillment, the crowdfunding project has exceeded all expectations by acheiving its main funding goal along with both of its stretch goals in only 5 days on Kickstarter.

The stretch goals include additional subtitle languages (Spanish/French) as well as additional pages being added to the included booklet in the set. Currently, the total pledged for the Blu-Ray/DVD combo set stands at ¥820,628 (USD$7,416.36) with 48 days left in the campaign. If you're like me and have waited years for a Blu-Ray version of this amazing film, this is your best and so far only chance to grab a copy. Don't sleep on it. The film synposis is below along with the crowdfunding project trailer.

Theatrical animation film, “MIND GAME”, is the directorial debut of the highly gifted animator, Masaaki Yuasa. Fusing together live action with both 2D and 3D animation, this is a hybrid movie that metamorphoses from back alleys to space through the use of brilliant technique. The music, which gives this innovative visual a interpretation, energy and depth, was produced by Seiichi Yamamoto who is highly praised around the world for his Rashinban unit and ROVO. Collaboration with Yoshimoto Kogyo brought great talents to voices: Koji Imada, Takashi Fujii, Tomomitsu Yamaguchi, and the participation of the splendid casts created quite a sensation. In 2004—the year that brought huge animation film releases one after another—MIND GAME was successfully bestowed two awards in Japan (Grand Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival, Noburo Ohfuji Award at the Mainichi Film Contest) as well as 5 awards (BEST FILM, Audience Award Best Animation Film: GOLD FANTASIA and more) at Fantasia International Film Festival.
