Aura Battler Dunbine, a classic 1983 Sunrise mecha / fantasy TV anime directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, is getting the deluxe Bluray box set treatment in Japan with a 2 part release that will be published in July and September of 2017. Check out the video below, which compares the picture quality of the DVD and Bluray releases and which is narrated by the incomparable Norio Wakamoto.
The box sets come loaded with goodies, including original artwork, a 100 page booklet, non-credit OP / ED animations, cast & crew interviews, audio commentaries, and a documentary about the world of Byston Well starring director Yoshiyuki Tomino.
The 1st box set includes Episode 1 - 28 and will be released in Japan on July 28, 2017. The 2nd box set includes episodes 29 - 49 as well as the Aura Battler Dunbine: The Tale of Neo Byston Well OAVs in both their original format and a TV movie edit format. The 2nd box set will be released in Japan on September 27, 2017. Each box set retails for 34,000 yen ($304.89 US) plus tax.
Aura Battler Dunbine is currently available in North America via digital streaming on the Daisuki website, who describe the series as follows:
