"Fairy Tail," "Monogatari," "Madoka Magica" and "Kill La Kill" Celebrate Tanabata Festival

On July 7th, Japan celebrates the star festival Tanabata, which marks the meeting of lover deities Orihime and Hikoboshi who are able to reunite only on the seventh day of the seventh month. Traditions include wearing yukata for summer festivals and tying strips of paper with poems and whiches to bamboo, which are often set afloat on a river or burned after the festival.

Fairy Tail author Hiro Mashima presented his take on the story

As did a number of Kill La Kill animators and fans

And, it's always big for Monogatari!

In addition to promoting this summer's Hanamonogatari anime, the Gamers Akihabara exhibit included a visual for the Owarimonogatari finale, due in September

And KanColle!

In 2012, poducer Manbo-Dead-Behind-The-House-P did a Tanabata trilogy of music videos with avatar-less Vocaloids VY1 and VY2 as Orihime and Hikoboshi and Gumi singing the third, Kappa part.

From translator 's comments:

Japanese folklore lesson! Tanabata is July 7th, and it celebrates the legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi (associated with stars Vega and Altair respectively), two deities that were separated by an entire galaxy for being too lovey-dovey to do their jobs. Got it? Good.

Additionally, the Milky Way (Amanogawa) is more or less considered a literal river for whatever reason. Also, youkai are mythical Japanese monsters, but I think you could guess that one.

Manbo claims the songs can be watched in any order, but it seems pretty clear to me that there's still a "proper" one, which is how I uploaded them. (Incidentally, I first watched them in the exact opposite order.)
