Popular "Werewolf Game" Modified For Otaku In "Are You a Ria-Ju?"

It's been a while since the Werewolf game became very popular in Japan with a TV production and theatrical adaptation with popular voice actors. Of course, many versions of the game also exist to spot something other than a werewolf. This particular version that will be on sale in Japan takes place in an otaku community to weed out "Ria-Ju", who are people who enjoy a great life.

The card game is titled "Otaku Jinro ~Spot A Ria-Ju" and the cards are illustrated by Ajiko Kojima who is the author of Tonari No 801-chan. Tonari No 801-chan is a popular comedy slice of life manga about an otaku guy and a fujoshi girl living together. The Otaku Jinro card game was first distributed at Kojima's Tonari No 801-chan+2 release event in 2013 but will be available for the first time to the general public on sale for 800 yen.

Here are samples of cards from the game deck. If you receive this card, instead of a villager, you are an Otaku, happily consumed by what you like with no social life (that's the assumption).

If you receive this card, you are not just The Seer but a fortune-telling Otaku.

Did you think the knight would be a regular knight? With this card, you are a Millitary Otaku.

Here comes the werewolf, which is the Ria-Ju in this version of the game. Ria-Ju is a short for "Real ga Jujitsu" in Japanese, with the literal translation being "the real life is content", that implies the person's life is filled with satisfaction and as in net-slang, it often means the person is popular and not alone nor lonely.

Some of you may argue that Ria-Ju are not as dangerous as werewolves. I would like to point to the line that is printed on the card which says "Why didn't you come to the party yesterday?" Just imagine that one Otaku getting eaten by the Ria-Ju night by night.

If this version was available, would you play it? Do you think the roles work? Is there anything you would change to make the game even more interesting?
