Should I Go Watch J-Rock Mega-Group L’Arc-en-Ciel Perform?

J-Rock is a territory in Japan’s pop landscape that’s still largely unexplored
for me (outside of anime intro and outro’s, natch). Ever since my old freelancer, AEL, put forth
his list of eight worthwhile J-bands, I’ve been intrigued to explore this area
a little further, though. As such, the timing of this invite from Live Viewing
Japan to see a theatrical satellite broadcast L’Arc en Ciel’s upcoming concert is
rather serendipitous.

I
haven’t run into these dudes before, but they’re apparently quite huge over the Pacific, with
all the great sales marks you’d hope would adorn a 20-year-long career. More to
the point, they look like real-life anime characters in the publicity photo
provided above, and that’s more than enough to get me intrigued. I'm hoping to see some furious auras of rock glowing at this.

They’ll be playing at Japan’s National Stadium on March 22, and
that performance is going to be beamed down by satellite to theaters in pretty
much every major American city that day
. I love me some rock - - wherever it cometh from - - and I love me
some unusual experiences, but I wanted to run this by you lunatics before I
go ahead and behold the glam & guitars.

Have
any of you been listening to L’Arc en Ciel? Do you dig ‘em? Would you jump at this if you got an invite? Should I? What J-Rock acts are
the most deserving of this attention?
