Inside Tochigi Prefecture’s “Mobile Suit Gundam” Special Exhibition

Japan's Nasu Highland amusement park is about to get a massive infusion of giant mecha via an upcoming “Mobile Suit Gundam” special exhibition.

This exhibition is a renewal of the “BANDAI Character Toy Stadium,” Japan’s largest “toy”-themed complex which received about 400,000 visitors after opening in March 2011. In addition to the first-ever life-size “Zaku Maintenance Factory” and the “Gundam Memorial Photo Corner,” where various scenes are reenacted, a chronology of past Gundams and Gundam toys are also on display.

Looking down at Zakus under maintenance from the 2nd floor deck of the “Zaku Maintenance Factory” offers a taste of what it was like to be a Zeon Commander. The chronology corner includes four standing Gundam figures (1/10 scale), a history of toys and hobbies in the Gundam series, and a Gundam quiz.

Admission into Nasu Highland is 1,600 yen for adults (middle school students and above) and 800 yen for children (up to elementary school students). There is no admission fee for the event hall displaying the “Mobile Suit Gundam” special exhibition. The event will run until 5th January 2015.
