An element of the Gundam 35th anniversary is the Gundam Global Challenge, an international design contest looking for proposals for making the 18m life-size Gundam move in time for Mobile Suit Gundam's 40th anniversary in 2019. Starting now, proposals, whether for the entire project or aimed at individual engineering problems, materials requirements, or systems, will be accepted through February 27th, 2015.
Engineering proposals can be aimed at moving the Gundam itself in its "Real Entertainment" category and visual proposals aimed at reproducing its motion in a VR space in is "Virtual Entertainment" category.
The GUNDAM GLOBAL CHALLENGE Leaders Board, an independent panel of experts including Mobile Suit Gundam director Yoshiyuki Tomino, Waseda University professor and vice president Shuji Hashimoto, and more, will review the proposals, and their choices will be made public in August 2015.
Individuals and groups whose proposals are accepted will have the opportunity to join as GUNDAM GLOBAL CHALLENGE members, with access to development and incentive funding as well as a say in further planning.
