Sleeping Dogs “Rebuilt” for Xbox One and PS4, Coming in October, According to Amazon

Sleeping Dogs “Rebuilt” for Xbox One and PS4, Coming in October, According to Amazon

It appears an Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release of open-world game Sleeping Dogs is indeed happening, and it will be out this October in the form of Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition.

A listing for the game was discovered on Amazon today, and it appears to be the real deal. According to a Square Enix promotional image on the page (below), Definitive Edition includes the extensive amount of downloadable content released for the original version, which has been “rebuilt specifically” for current-gen systems. Presumably that means it will look quite a bit nicer than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, but it’s unclear how much better it may look than the already-gorgeous PC version.

The only version shown on Amazon is a $59.99 limited edition that will be released for Xbox One and PS4 on October 14. The limited edition includes a special artbook packaging that consists of 28 pages of Sleeping Dogs concept art.

We’ve contacted Square Enix, the game’s publisher, to see if it will confirm any of the details listed on Amazon’s page, and we will report back with anything we learn. The company today reported its earnings for the quarter ended June 30 and made no mention of a Sleeping Dogs re-release.

This isn’t the first time the notion of such a release has come up; back in June, a listing for an Xbox One and PS4 game called Sleeping Dogs HD was discovered on UK retailer Shopto’s website, according GamrReview.

Developed by United Front Games, Sleeping Dogs was originally released to a positive reception in August 2012. It’s unclear who is developing Definitive Edition, but United Front was the studio responsible for the Xbox One re-release of another Square Enix-published game, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. It’s currently working on a free-to-play game that will be released next year.

If you’ve played Sleeping Dogs before, will you double-dip and pick up Definitive Edition? Let us know in the comments.
