Who loves Pikachu? Actually, a better question is who doesn’t?
Since his début in the first generation of Pokémon, the electric mouse has become a household name. His role in the anime series has cemented Pikachu’s status as a treasured mascot, and a merchandising giant.
Pikachu’s smiling mug has adorned T-shirt, mugs, snacks, and toys. He’s been a star of several anime shorts, and even his own line of spinoff video games. The character is so popular that he’s become the ambassador for Pokémon, as a whole.
It should come as little surprise, then, when Nintendo does something crazy with the adorable critter.
On August 2, over 50 Pikachu mascots descended upon Yokohama’s Red Brick Warehouse & Park. The gathering was to commemmorate the release of the latest Pokémon flick, Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. In addition, Diancie voice actress Marika Matsumoto was in attendance hosting a photo-op.
Most onlookers, though, seemed more interested in the mass congregation of cute. Photos flooded Twitter from all sources, be it enthusiast publication Game Watch, or simply random passers-by. The spectacle, in itself, was simply amazing to behold. We’ve posted a few of our favorite photos below Let us know which you like!
