Nikkatsu has posted a 100-second full trailer for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Santa Inoue's Tokyo Tribe 2 manga (the film is simply titled "Tokyo Tribe" without "2"). It calls the film as "the world's first battle rap musical," and the tagline is "Tokyo wo Bukkowase" (Destroy Tokyo). The song featured in the trailer is "HOPE -TOKYO TRIBE ANTHEM-," the theme song performed by AI.
The manga Tokyo Tribe 2 was serialized in Shodensha's fashion magazine boon from 1997 to 2005 as the sequel to the original Tokyo Tribe, then compiled in 12 tankobon volumes. The story of the series is set in Tokyo as a fictional town ruled by violence and crime, while featuring many hip hop and R&B music. A 13-episode TV anime also based on Tokyo Tribe 2 animated by Madhouse was aired on Wowow from November 2006 to February 2007.
The live-action film Tokyo Tribe written/directed by Sion Sono (Why Don't You Play in Hell?) hits Japanese
theaters on August 30.
