Koji Aihara's Zombie Manga "Z" Gets Live-Action Adaptation Film

It is officially announced today on April 9 that a live-action adaptation film of Koji Aihara's zombie feature manga Z will be released in Japan this summer. Aihara is best known for his collaboration work with Kentaro Takekuma in late 1980s, parody manga instructional book Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga. Z has been serialized in Nihon Bungeisha's Bessatsu Manga Goraku and the first volume was published in April 2013.

The apocalyptic manga is made in omnibus form to tell various tragic stories about the people across Japan attacked by the zombie plague. Norio Tsuruta, who has been highly-praised for his horror pics such as Ring 0: Birthday (2000), Orochi: Blood (2008), and POV: Norowareta Film (2012), helms the live-action project. The film features Rinko Toda (Mayu Kawamoto), a high school girl who fights against zombies with her naginata. This is the first live-action adaptation project for Aihara. The manga author

also performs as one of the zombies in the film.

In addition to the feature film, two more related-episodes has been produced simultaneously. The episodes

of the film will be included in the first two volumes of the six-volume DVD series, and other episodes will be

in the third to sixth DVD.
