High School Thug Manga "Akira No.2" Gets Live-Action Adaptation Film

The official site for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Hiromasa Okushima's yankee (school thugs and delinquents) manga Akira No.2 launches today on April 21. The manga centers on Akira, who is in the post of No.2 in Rikuzan High School which is known as a den of school thugs, and his struggle to be the top of the school. It has been serialized in Shonen Gahousha's Young King since August 2012 and the latest fourth tankobon volume will be released on May 26.


 


26-year-old actor Ryota Ozawa, who is best known as Gokai Red in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, plays the lead character Akira with 31-year-old real kickboxer Yasuhiro Kido (2008 K-1 World MAX Japan Tournament Winner) as the leader of the school (Bancho), Tsutomu. The film also has Maasa Igarashi (Library Wars: 2013 live-action film), Manami Hashimoto (Kamen Rider Kiba), and Shodai Fukuyama in the cast. The director Norihisa Okumura previously directed a live-action film adaptation of another popular


yankee manga in the Young King magazine, Shippu Nijimarugumi by Shinya Kuwahara in January this year.


 


The live-action film Akira No.2 is scheduled to be released in Japan this fall.
