Adapted from a manga by Tetsuya Chiba, Rowdy Sumo Wrestler Matsutaro!! focuses on the traditional Japanese sport of sumo, following aspiring sumo wrestler Matsutaro Sakaguchi, a man with strength far beyond ordinary people. Although he is far stronger than anyone else when it comes to sumo, his carefree personality may prove to be his greatest weakness.
The new anime stars actor and singer Ken Matsudaira as the titular Matsutaro, along with Yuko Mizutani, also known as Pinoko from the Black Jack series, as Reiko Minami; Kozo Shioya, probably best known for Majin Buu from the Dragon Ball Z series, plays Shin Tanaka; Issei Futamata, who also voiced Mikiyasu Shinshi from the Patlabor series, plays Shimada-sensei; Bin Shimada, who also voiced Dr. Hell in Robot Girls Z, plays Nishio; and Masaharu Satou, who was also Hank from Shining Hearts, is cast as the Company President.
