After a tough winter, Japan is doing their best to shake the season with special cherry blossom themed items. In time for March rite of spring hanami viewing, the country's McDonald's is offering Sakura Teritama - Cherry Blossom Burger, which is teriyaki pork topped with an egg and blossom mayo, with daikon radish offering the color, on a pink colored bun.
To go with this, into April, McD's Japan is offering sakura soda, floats and just introduced frappes and mochas along with a special maple, chocolate and stawberry pie a la mode dessert.
A host of TV and radio personalities were assembled to offer their own regional tasting feedback..
Meanwhile, Häagen-Dazs Japan turns 30 this year, and to celebrate, are offering special sakura and rose flavors.
You might remember that Häagen-Dazs closed its Japanese store chain last April, but the premium ice cream brand is available at supermarkets. Through July, mini sakura and rose cups are being sold to celebrate the anniversary.
They describe sakura cup as cherry blossom-flavored ice cream and cherry variegate sauce covered with a pink-colored sakura sauce. This ice cream includes flower petal powder with a hint of salt, and cherry sauce made from sour cherries.
The Rose mini-cup contains strawberry ice cream with an aromatic Damask rose extract and plum sauce with the mild fragrance of Turkish rose extract. It’s covered with a rose sauce.
