Retail store Marui Group Co., Ltd. has created a series of animated commercials that celebrate the ups-and-downs of grown-up life entitled Neko ga Kureta Maarui Shiawase ("The Round Happiness That the Cat Gave to Me"). The commercials follow the everyday life of Mari Hirakura, a 30 year old career woman who designs the packaging for a cosmetics company.
The Neko ga Kureta Maarui Shiawase CM series is directed by Ryoutarou Makihara (The Empire of Corpses) and features series composition and screenplays by Deko Akao and animation by Yokohama Animation Lab. The series features the voice talents of Maaya Uchida as Mari Hirakura, Takahiro Sakurai as Oi-san the cat, and Tomokazu Sugita as Shingo Takeda, Mari's boss.
There will be a total of 4 commercials in the Neko ga Kureta Maarui Shiawase series. The first installment, entitled "Shigoto-hen ~ Mari-san no, Presento to Shortcake ~" ("Work Story ~ Mari's Presentation and Shortcake") is available above. Other episodes will deal with such subjects as friends, family, marriage, and the anxieties of growing older.
