The official site for the live-action film adaptation of Taku Tsumugi's popular shoujo manga in the mid-1980s Hot Road announced yesterday that the film has earned 2.01 billion yen with 1,589,000 ticket sales as of September 10, in 26 days from its opening on August 16. It now becomes the first love story-themed film which breaks the 2 billion mark at Japan box office of this year. As reported, the top-grossing Japanese live-action film in all genre is Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno which has earned 4.58 billion yen as of the last weekend. Live-action film adaptations based on popular manga/anime franchise are probably the most reliable money-makers in the current Japanese market.
The trailer
The story revolves around a 14-year-old girl Kazuki Miyaichi, who believes that she is an undesired child and
her parents have already abandoned her. One day she meets a 16-year-old boy Hiroshi Haruyama who is a
member of a big motorcycle gang "NIGHTS" (MAD SPECIAL THE NIGHTS). While Kazuki decides to live in the
reckless world with him, Hiroshi, as the leader of "NIGHTS," gradually becomes involved in the conflict with
other gang groups.
