Back in June it was reported that Dragon Quest XI is in the works for home console, but additional details were scant. Series creator Yuji Horii gave the next game another mention in this week's issue of Famitsu, saying, "Dragon Quest XI is being developed simultaneously alongside Dragon Quest Heroes."
Horii added, "But we'd like you all to play this title first to bring out enlivened feelings before going to the next title."
Dragon Quest Heroes: The Dark Dragon and the Castle of the World Tree is the Musou-style action-RPG in the works for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Horii says the concept message behind it is, "From small to large, the invasion of 100 monsters," and actual development at Koei Tecmo's Omega Force started last year. While they prepared the scenario, Horii contributed a good amount, as well.
Dragon Quest Heroes—which features music from series composer Koichi Sugiyama, including orchestrated arrangement of some of DQ's popular songs—is currently scheduled for a spring 2015 release in Japan.
