FEATURE: Anime-Planet Recommends... Eclectic Edition

Hello again, and welcome to another edition of "Anime-Planet Recommends...", where each week we showcase some of the anime you recommend people might like on Anime-Planet

Squid Girl

Let's get right to the recommendations!

To start things off, Bronia thinks you'd like either Gingitsune or Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha if you liked the other.

Gingitsune

Inari

He says:

"Both are all about the relationship between a mortal and the devine, and both also spend a lot of time focusing on interactions outside of the shrine, too. Inari Konkon has more romance thrown in, but Gingitsune is more informative on shrines. Gingitsune and Inari both balance telling the stories of the divine folks and the mortal folks very well and have casts full of fun characters."

Another vote came in this week for the fast-paced Kill la Kill and Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.

Kill la Kill

Panty and Stocking

Melodux thinks you'd like these because:

"Though Kill la Kill has more plot to it than Panty and Stocking, they are both "lightning fast" paced. The bright, ever-changing visuals are entertaining. Plus both anime have sexy girls doing sexy transformation squences."

I was pleased to see the next recommendation come through the moderation queue this week, as in this humble fan's opinion, there is no better recommendation for either of these than each other - at least, if you're interested in the compelling, tragic rise to power that the protagonists have.

If you liked Berserk or Gungrave, check out the other.

Berserk

Gungrave

quacker explains their thoughts on the pairing:

"Both are stories of two friends. One friend is super ambitious and willing to do anything to reach his goal. The other friend is physicially stronger but rides the coattails of his friend's ambition.

Both series maintain a serious atmosphere, and both start out in medias res, with the first episode beginning in the middle of the plot and then reverting to the beginning. Both have fantastic characters, great stories, supernatural elements, betrayal, and lots of fighting and killing."

In the mood for a wild ride? Try out Redline or Space Dandy.

Redline

Space Dandy

Lilit says:

"Space Dandy and Redline are set up the same way. They take a cool idea (in Dandy’s case it‘s a new cool idea every episode) and run with it paying no concern to a greater plot. Both are exhilarating rides; animators‘ playgrounds where everything goes as long as it looks cool. Watching either one is super fun and that is all you need to know to try the other."

I summon thee, Urobutcher! Gargantia or Aldnoah Zero fans might be interested in the other.

Gargantia

Aldnoah Zero

thatotakugirl states:

"Both Aldnoah and Gargantia are mecha series under Gen Urobuchi. Both feature a world where humanity has been split between earth and space, and the conflicts that come with their interaction. While Aldnoah is a much more serious show, with the casulties of war and race, Gargantia is more of an "stranger in a strange land" with the main character arriving on earth by accident. Both series are action and drama heavy, with flashy villains arriving in their own mechas to do battle and shady secrets hidden by the military. For mecha fans and anime fans alike, these are good, short series to try out if you're feeling the need for action and plot twists, and both revel Urobuchi's signature "oh no they didn't" mouth open shaking fist at the sky emotions."

Do you like cars? What about commercials? How about cars AND commercials? Next A-Class and Peace Eco Smile might be for you.

Next A-Class

Peace Eco Smile

Kari5 explains:

"Both of these are promotional shorts for real life cars. They are specifically designed as advertisements, but if you can ignore the product placement, they're interesting short stories."

How about some idols? You might like the Wake up Girls movie, or Love Live! School Idol Project.

Wake Up Girls

Love Live

AngelBeatsYui thinks these are a good pairing because:

"Both anime feature idols who just about come from nowhere, who work hard to get popular. They both feature a group of girls who look up to a more famous group and they both aim for a certain concert as such. Love Live was more based around the school that the girls go to and how they develop throughout their school live whereas the Wake Up, Girls! Movie is about the agency developing. However even if this is the case the basic story is very similar. And I believe if you liked one you should like the other."

Horror fans rejoice - Vampire Princess Miyu and Hell Girl might be right up your alley.

Vampire Princess Miyu

Hell Girl

AnnaSartin writes:

"Hell Girl and the Vampire Princess Miyu TV series have a lot in common. Both are dark shows that feature an immortal adolecent girl whose job it is to send evil souls out of the human world. Both girls are somewhat stoic and both have tragic pasts. Both series are told in an episodic format and both have episodes that are quite depressing. If you enjoyed one, give the other a try."

And for another horror tip, Another fans might enjoy Ookami Kakushi and vice versa - just make sure to avoid the umbrellas along the way @_@

Another

Ookami Kakushi

PurpleCatAngel has this to say:

"Like Ookami, Another is about a boy who transfers to a new school, gets wrapped up in mysterious deaths of people and tries his hardest to find the answer to stop it."

That's it for this week! As always, add your recommendations on Anime-Planet each week for a chance to be featured in this column. Enjoy your weekend and see you next time!
