New Afro Samurai PC, Console Game Announced

Banner Saga publisher to release third-person action-adventure game

Publisher Versus Evil (Banner Saga) announced Wednesday that it will release a new Afro Samurai video game. Redacted Studios is developing the game for the PC and next-generation consoles. The third-person action-adventure game will feature new characters and a new story.

Namco Bandai Games released the first Afro Samurai game in North America and Europe in 2009 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

Animation studio Gonzo adapted Takashi Okazaki‘s 1999 Afro Samurai seinen manga into the Afro Samurai television mini-series (2007) and later into the Afro Samurai: Resurrection television movie (2009). Both anime projects became the bestselling anime DVD releases of their respective years.

Seven Seas Entertainment released the manga in North America, and Funimation released the anime adaptations.

Indomina Group announced in July 2011 that it would be producing a live-action adaptation of Afro Samurai with Samuel L. Jackson and Gonzo. Filming was originally scheduled to begin in the Dominican Republic in 2012.
