"Madoka Magica: Rebellion" Sells 128,000 Limited Blu-rays in Its First Week

According to the Oricon weekly Blu-ray ranking for the week of March 31 to April 6, the limited edition Blu-ray of Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion, the third installment of the Madoka Magica film trilogy, tops the overall ranking selling about 128,000 units in its first week. This is the third highest record for the anime Blu-ray's first week after Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance (May 2010 / 357,000 units) and Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo (April 2013 / 313,000 units) since July 2008 when the ranking started. This is the 7th time for the Madoka Magica franchise to take the NO.1 spot in the overall ranking.


 


The regular edition Blu-ray which was also released on the same day, April 2, sold about 10,000 units (4th place in the overall Blu-ray ranking), while the regular edition DVD sold about 11,000 units (3rd place in the overall DVD ranking). The third Madoka film was released in Japan on October 26, 2013,


and earned over 2 billion yen with 1.4 million ticket sales in its box office run.
