BLEACH #2 -- Retro Review

I figure five episodes is an adequate sampling size, yes? Since I’m
about to wrap up my taster bite of NARUTO, I might as well take a few more
nibbles out of BLEACH to complete my HST experience, no?

My first major interaction with this franchise was with the two movies
that CN broadcast a couple years back. Both of this flicks had more shinigami
running in them around then I could hope to keep track of. Bearing that in mind
- - along with the warning so many of you lunatics having given about early
BLEACH being incomparable to later BLEACH - - I can guess that the show changes
significantly once Ichigo starts meeting other members of the
Soul Society aside from Rukia.

As is, there’s something kind-of… pure to this set-up of
some other-wordly asskicker slumming it with a high school student. When Rukia
intrudes on Ichigo’s day-to-day, it seems like a more authentic premise than
the countless alien-girls-crashlanding-into-regular-Joe’s-worlds. Maybe it’s
just because she’s actually got a concrete mission for him instead of being there
just to ostensibly “turn his world upside down?” The lessons Ichigo gets about
impartiality and the cruel nature of the Hollow’s are quite surprisingly substantial.

(I do question why the notion of the new girl at school being a
shinigami would be so out of the realm of understanding for these students,
though? Hasn’t everybody already accepted that Ichigo can see ghosts?)

Might as well say it, too: whenever I’ve checked out the BLEACH manga,
the… minimalist quality of Tite Kubo’s has never sit right with
me. It carries over to the show itself, honestly. Particularly with the Hollows
introduced in this episode. They just don’t’ seem especially well-designed.Anyway, since my first major interaction with this franchise was with
the two majorWatch "The
Shinigami's Work
" and decide for yourself, then read my comments about the
previous episode
.
