This week the ‘Top 10' weekly feature returns with a look at the top 10 selling Xbox One games in 2013. Over the next couple of months we will be taking a look at the rest of the gaming platforms sales in 2013, as well as the top 10 selling games by region.
The Xbox One launched in November 2013 and the entire top 10 consists of launch titles. The console had the second biggest launch in gaming history. It only trailed behind its rival the PlayStation 4.
In less than two months the top 10 selling games sold 7.01 million units, with two titles already selling more than one million units. The top seven titles topped 500,000 units sold, while the entire top 10 sold at least 250,000 units.
When you break it down by publisher there are three first party titles, published by Microsoft, and seven third party titles. There are four titles published by Electronic Arts, one by Activision, one by Ubisoft, and one by Take-Two.
The three Microsoft games sold a combined 2.35 million units or 33.5 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The four Electronic Arts titles sold a combined 2.34 million units or 33.3 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.
The top 10 selling Xbox One games in 2013 as a graph does a good job at showing two things. The strength of shooters and the strength of first party titles Microsoft had at launch. The top two titles are shooters, while there are three in the top four titles. Three of the top five games are first party, which is better than the one first party game the PlayStation 4 had in the top five.
Side note: There were 3.09 million Xbox One's sold in 2013, with 7.77 million games sold. That would put the attach ratio at 2.52 games sold for each console sold. There were 18 games available for the console at retail.
Electronic Arts sold the most games for the platform with 2.41 million units. Microsoft managed to sell 2.40 million games, Activision 1.50 million games, Ubisoft 0.77 million games, Take-Two 0.39 million games, and Warner Bros. 0.23 million games.
