It is officially announced today that a TV anime adaptation of Kotaro Kosugi's 4-panel manga Futsu no Joshikosei ga Locodol Yattemita (Ordinary High School Girls Tried Being Local Idols) is in the works. "Locodol" stands for local idols, who base their activities in a certain local area. The manga has been serialized in Ichijinsha's Manga 4-koma Palette since the April 2012 issue and one tankobon volume has been published. The news was also revealed on the March 2014 issue of the magazine which officially hit Japanese stores today. The second tankobon volume is scheduled to be published on February 22.
The story focuses on two high school girls Nanako Usami (CV:Miku Ito) and Yukari Kohinata (CV: Sachika Misawa), who happen to work as a local idol unit "Nagarekawa Girls." The "Nagarekawa-city"
in the story is based on the real Nagarekawa area in Hiroshima Prefecture. In commemoration of the
production of the anime, the two main voice actresses Ito and Misawa are appointed as the Goodwill
Ambassadors for the area.
The TV anime is produced by feel (Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai, Outbreak Compay) and directed
by Munenori Nawa (kiss×sis, Nakaimo - My Sister is Among Them!). Yunini Ayana (Kiniro Mosaic) works
on series composition and Yumi Shimizu (animation director for Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!)
designs the anime characters. It will be broadcasted on TBS and BS-TBS and the on-air schedule will
be announced later.
