Help the World's Greatest Surgeon in "Black Jack" Puzzle Room

So you're not a doctor -- but now you have a chance to play one in an escape room! And just in case you don't know what you're doing, don't worry: the world's greatest misanthropic doctor this side of House will be helping you every step of the way.

Black Jack ~Emergency Operation on Escape~ is a new escape room project, born of a collaboration between the Tezuka Corporation and puzzle-makers Yodaka's Record.

The plot casts players in the role of an up-and-coming doctor, as well as a friend of the "patient of the week." And in this case, the patient literally dropped out of the sky with a serious disease. Allegedly he was covering for a pharmaceutical company's botched trial, and things didn't go too well when he decided to come clean and out them. Now, not only must the players find out what's going on behind the scenes, they must also consult the great Black Jack for help in curing their friend.

As for Black Jack's presence -- he'll be there in some form. Akio Ohtsuka, the voice of Black Jack, is recording dialogue to guide players through the scenes. Whether there will be new animation on strategically-placed screens or whether you'll just hear his voice on speakers is uncertain; but the latter seems more likely.

The puzzle room opens July 23 and runs until September 24 at Yodaka's Dramatic Room in Nishi-Shinjuku. Showtimes are 8:30 pm on Fridays and 11:30 am, 2:30 pm, and 5:30 pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. Tickets are 3,000 yen in advance or 3,500 yen at the door. More information is available at the Yodaka's Record website.
