Rumor: "Akira" Production Eyes "Get Out" Director Jordan Peele

Alright, let's bust out the usual salt shaker we use for Akira news and rumors before we get into this one. Just the other day we posted about Swedish directors being eyed for the production, but the latest rumor out of The Tracking Board has that gaze falling to Jordan Peele, who is fresh off directing the hit horror movie Get Out

Prior to Get Out, Peele was primarily known as a comedian, most recently co-hosting Comedy Central sketch show Key & Peele alongside Keegan-Michael Key. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum from whatever Akira ends up being, Get Out grossed over $150 million domestically after being produced on a relatively meager $4.5 million budget.

According to The Tracking Board, insiders say Warner Bros. is moving "aggressively" to lock Peele into the director's role, and discussions have been encouraging. We'll see if this one ends up panning out or not.

Directors previously attached to this eternal project have included Stephen Norrington, Gary Whitta, Albert Hughes, Ruairi Robinson, and Jaume Collet-Serra.
